medallion lost wax casting

Bryan and I cast the medallion wax. Despite using the wrong investment, it came out fine with just a bit of  flashing from where the investment cracked a bit. I ended up having to make a custom crucible out of steel as well as custom flasks to be able to cast the large amount of aluminum needed. I could have gravity cast it, but I knew that the structure of the aluminum would be tighter if is centrifugally cast it. We went ahead and cast the second wax the next day as Mary needed to film the process. It ended up with a few air bubbles spots, but we'll be able to clean it up. We're actually thinking about re-indexing this one on the mill, stepping it down a bit and doing a parallel finish over the entire thing; just to see if it would work for future pieces. Anyway.., we have almost all of the parts made and now we're working on clean-up and fitting of the various parts.
