Sean Slemon came into our studio today to conduct an aqua-resin casting workshop. The aqua-resin is interesting stuff as it's a non-toxic casting material, water based, ventilation is not necesary, and it cures super fast. We used fiberglass as an aggregate, but it can be used with several other materials. It's seems very flexible in terms of the types of uses that it could be applied to. Our students had a great time working with it. Sean is a super down-to-earth artist and I really enjoyed the time I spent with him. Thanks to him for sharing his knowledge with us!

I never heard of Aqua-Resin before - will definitely check it out! It actually sounds somewhat similar to a technique some people use for scratchbuilt RC planes - rather than using epoxy, Minwax Polycrylic is used with the fiberglass veil instead. I'll have to dig up the MSDS sheets for Aqua-Resin and see just what's in it...
yeah, check it out. He says that you have to build up at least 1/4" shell thickness for it to be durable, but that's why he uses the foam it as a filler inside the form.
