my rostock rep rap

After seeing the Rostock rep rap project videos last week, I just knew that I needed to build one. I started building right away (last Thursday) by printing of some of the major parts that make up the design. I also decided to make some of the parts in aluminum namely the rods and platform (although I made a printed version of the platform as well). I was able to get the frame together (in acrylic) and most of the parts assembled by late Friday. It really came together quickly as there are very few parts. I took the weekend off from working on it, but was able to get back to it this week. Today I was able to get it moving properly and Bryan assisted me in dialing it in the rest of the way later this afternoon. I still need to work on getting my sd card reader code set up so I can up the speed a bit without fear of the jerky movement interrupting printing. I also need to work on getting the hot end, extruder and bed set up along with tidying up the wiring, but it's getting close. I just love to watch the homing pattern before it moves to print. Bryan was a huge help in getting the measurements right so we could get it to touch off on the minimum end-stops (so thanks Bryan!). It's magical to watch. I printed a pen holder tonight so maybe I can make some drawings tomorrow so I can check for level. Maybe I'll reinforce the frame too with a bit more acrylic or some kind of bracing. I need to hunt down some longer GT2 belts as well, so I can get a bit more travel. I also plan on make some more components in aluminum and doing some upgrades as a part of the development of this really cool delta design. For now enjoy the fabrication photos (and look for a video soon) and hopefully I'll have some prints to show from it in the future...
