denver tribology conference

The last couple weeks have been a blur. We had Arthur Hash in, as a visiting artist, and I had such a good time talking to him and hanging out for a few days (look for a couple of big blog posts in the future about this). I will have a lot to share about this so stay tuned. I missed the "nerdy derby" due to a prior engagement, but it was in the name of promoting "making and technology". I sure wish I could have been there. The video looked like everyone had a blast and Michael did a full write up on it, so at least I feel like I was kinda there since he did such a great job writing the post.

Last Friday I left for Denver to attend a Tribology Conference. I was invited by Chancellor Lovell to be the Keynote Speaker so there was no getting out of this. ASME and STLE sponsored the conference and there were researchers and professionals from all over the world here. I was a bit worried about speaking to the group but my fears were put to ease after I set up my display. I had so many people come over to talk about the objects that I had made and to check out the 3D printers that I had brought will me (yes, I was able to fit three printers and my work along with luggage and two kids in the back of the rental). The keynote talk after the luncheon went really well and I felt at ease (so much that I almost went over the allotted time). So many people came up to me afterwards and told me how amazing it was to see the things we were doing in Milwaukee. I spent the rest of the conference talking about technology and making with the many attendees at my table. I'm hoping that several of the attendees follow up on some of the discussions we had for potential collaborations. I think some great things could come out of this!
