sloss: the site

This site is humbling. I can't even begin to comprehend what it took to erect a place such as this, let alone what it took to run and work in a place like this. I truly believe that our ancestors were made of something greater than I am capable of exhibiting. It's amazing what the human mind and hands are capable of. Every time I walk around Sloss I am reminded that I have a lot to learn from the past.

Matt and I attended an ABANA blacksmithing convention there quite a few years ago. It's good they preserved the site. It was a great place to see world class smiths demonstrate their skills. The Barber Museum wasn't there yet or that would have been a definite stop as well. I definitely need to check it out.

Yeah, such a cool place. I would have loved to have been at the Blacksmithing event. Check out the Barber if you get the chance. Hope you are doing well!

I'm curious about the swastika shown in the second to last photo. Obviously the place was built before the symbol was appropriated by the Nazi party, so I wonder what is its significance?

Hi Jack,

I honestly don't know about the swastika. I happened upon it and I was curious as well. I just took the photo to remind me to do some research into it. I wondered if anyone else might know.
