The Turchin Center For the Visual Arts at AppState curates a public sculpture exhibition called the Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition each year. This year's accepted pieces are arriving on campus and things are being installed. I was able to take a short walk around the art department building and the surrounding area today to see a few of the new pieces. There will be many more pieces arriving in the next couple of days. The Rosen supports artists with the shipping and installation and offers award money as well. It's a great program that promotes public work. I know a lot of people have mixed feelings on public art as it "came and went" out of favor with the art world, but I personally believe it to be a very democratic form of getting people of all kinds to interact with artwork. What a great program we have here at AppState. I look forward to seeing all of the work.
