fish on

I've had fun hanging with Maya and Olivia for the last several days. We were in a pretty good routine of having meals together, keeping the house clean, and watching some educational travel shows at night when the work was done. I was able to fit in a little studio work when they played outside or up at the house. We also fit in some yard work and I cleared some routadendron from around the pond and they helped me pile up the limbs/leaves.

Wednesday morning Jill and Noah started for home from Illinois. I was working in the shop and Liv was down at the shop as well. She decided she wanted to go fishing so I fixed her pole and away she went. I had multiple machines running so I didn't hear her yell for me that she had caught a fish. Maya ran down because she heard Liv and we all met outside the shop to see Liv's first solo catch. Maya immediately decided she needed to fish, and as Liv and I were crossing the creek Maya yells that she has a "fish on". I went back to the studio and got my pole and the game was on! From this point on it was a full on fishing tournament. We fished until Jill and Noah got home that night.

The addiction is real. There has been fishing everyday since Wednesday; even in the rain. Noah helped me reposition our overflow pipe so we could raise the water level a bit. Our pond is fed by our creek so it has a constant flow of fresh water. We're thinking of building a screen for the overflow pipe and stocking the pond. I think we all could get hours of enjoyment out of this. Liv caught a really nice fish yesterday right before the rain rolled in. She stayed out as the rain rolled in and so did Maya. Since I spent many hours fishing as a kid, this has been a joy to see them take to fishing and to see the thrill that get when they catch one. I know it's a simple thing but somehow retreating back into these simple things brings balance to the world. Maybe more people should get out and fish.
