Today I completed the race medals for the Greater Orlando American Association of Zoo Keepers for their Run for Rhinos 5K. Jill helped me glue the heads on yesterday and then today I sanded the tops one last time.
We had gotten tons of rain yesterday, and the yard was in need of a trim so I waited until afternoon to try and get things to dry out a bit. I could probably stand to mow about every five days these last few weeks. I mowed everything and had a good time thinking while I mowed. I really enjoy this time to myself each week as it allows me time to think about things.
When I was done mowing, I got a call from Eric. It was so good to catch up with him. I was glad to hear that he's working on things of his own today. It's always so good to chat with him just to catch up and hear what he's up to. I wish we lived closer but I guess it wouldn't matter in times like these.
When we were done talking, I fixed dinner on the grill for the family and then I gave myself a haircut. I've been cutting my own hair for probably close to twenty seven years. I'm waiting to collect the savings from my wife someday. Maybe I could convince her to buy me a new motorcycle or car with the money I've saved her/us. It always feels good to get a fresh start with the haircut. It's a good "reset" for me and always makes me feel like getting things accomplished the day after; for some strange reason. I can always count on a haircut to motivate me when I'm in a slump. Sounds weird doesn't it? Well it's just something I know about myself and I use it as a tool to kick myself in the rear end sometimes.
We all went down to the pond after dinner to fish some and I ended up burning a huge pile of brush that I had cleared last week. The rest of the family went on a walk down to the horse stables and I stayed to tend to the fire. When they came back we sat around the fire and Noah played his new acoustic guitar for us. He's getting really good and I'm proud to hear him starting to sing. He has been blessed with a gift that I hope he is appreciates and fosters more and more as he grows older. Liv said "it was a good day" when we walked up to the house for the night. I usually refrain from declarative statements in the moment and reserve them for later, but now it's later so I'll agree, "IT WAS a good day".
