hoss haley - erratic

The Turchin Center, which is a part of the University that I teach at has work on exhibit by artist, Hoss Haley. This past summer some of my students and my colleagues helped move the pieces for this work into the art gallery for installation and then we helped flip the piece over into it's resting spot in the gallery. Craig & Erin work at the Turchin and they've been making some amazing videos about artists in their studios, such as the one seen here. The video above documents some of this work as well as the work Hoss did in his studio to create the piece. Hoss lives about an hour from me down at Penland and I've visited his studio before and I always enjoy the interactions we have when I see him at Penland. I've always related to him as an individual for some reason that I couldn't quite pinpoint.

The section of the video where he talks about his father's resourcefulness and using what you have on hand speaks to me for certain and I believe this has made me start to understand that connection I feel to Hoss's work. Craig and Erin did a fantastic job of shooting and editing this. It's inspiring to see the work leading up to this as well as the finished work.
