even more cl450 cafe

Worked in the studio late last night and made some progress on the cafe racer. I made a seat pan to be covered and bolted down to the rear tail section, finished welding the tail section, made some gussets for the new frame tubes I bent up and welded in, worked on making some perf sections for the battery box, and relocated the tach to the centerline of the bike. I think I have everything ready to strip down in preparation for finish welding. I still have a list of things to make, but these can all be done while as I am assembling the painted bits and pieces. My goal is to be finished by Rockerbox which is August 8th.

I worked on tank badges today. Since my last post I decided to make them a little larger to match the scale of what Honda would have put on it in. I worked on creating a new cut program, and sliced out one this afternoon. I still need to decide if I just want it pocketed like the pics show or if I want to pierce through in some spots (possibly the Honda wing).

Once completed, I decide it would be cool to clean the piece up and give it a little patina. I started by brushing the surface with some course steel wool to get the oil and fingerprints off.

Then I mixed up some warm Liver of Sulfur and dipped it in the solution, making sure to get an even coating.

Then I rubbed it back with some fine steel wool to create a contrast with the deeper sections of the design.

Also decided to test out the positioning on the tank. Now I just need to live with it for a while to decide if I like it......
