bronze scissors

These scissors belonged to my grandfather. My Dad gave these to me. He had found them at my grandfather's old farm and he decided to clean them up a bit. It turns out that they are bronze. I'm curious why they are bronze rather than steel. I wondered if it was due to a special application. I love the material quality of these scissors. They have presence.

I wonder if they were meant to be used in a possibly flammable environment or around volatile chemicals. Similar to how brass hammers are used when sparks from a steel tool could be a 'bad thing'.
