Lucy came up to the studio on Friday afternoon and we worked on spinning some copper cups that she will be using for one of her assignments in my class. We had to anneal these in between spinnings. It's pretty good to have a few of these going at once, as you can spin one while the others are pickling after the annealing job and you can just keep rotating these out. The copper is a bit tougher to push than the 99% pure aluminum that I had done before. The copper also work hardens quickly. The fist one we started got too thin when I pushed a bit hard and we cracked and split the form. We're finally getting the hang of it and I am really liking the copper forms a lot. I worked on another form today by myself, just so I could practice a bit. I'll have one more annealing and final smoothing spin and then the form above will be finished.
