I decided I wanted to get a serious belt grinder after watching the Cut Brooklyn video a while back. I've been using some homemade grinders for a while, but I want a little more powerful and rigid version for grinding steel.
This is the start of my Beaumont KMG belt grinder. I decided I could build it cheaper than the $605 for just the chassis (no attachments or motor). I found some plans online for a copy of a KMG and ordered the steel from Speedy Metals already cut to size. This should save some time. My flange bearings, drive shaft, and numerous nuts and bolts came from McMaster-Carr today. I'm looking forward to getting this up and running.
I'm trying to decide if I should do a variable speed DC or fixed speed AC motor. If I get this one built, then I'm going to start work on a horizontal table version.
