Wow, I should have brought by those parts looong ago... My plan was to use the MXL belts and pulleys rather than the HTD belts (and rather coarse toothed rapid prototyped pulleys), but if you can get them to work, go for it!
Be sure to let me know what rapid prototyped parts you still need - I have two new materials to test out in the Stratasys.
Ha, ha,... I have been excited to get the thing built....
I'll have to see if I use the coarse toothed pulleys. I just wanted to get the flat of the motor shaft milled so I could make sure everything would fit before mounting the motors. I'll probably wind up with the small pulleys.
I still need to make an inventory of what parts I need. I thought about milling some of the ones that I know I can; just not sure which ones those are....
I need to make a y-axis chassis so I can bolt up some of the existing parts but then I will figure out what else I need.
Your material research is awesome! Hopefully I'll be able to start working figuring out the best print material for the reprap in the near future.;
You may find yourself machining various replacement parts over time anyhow - it seems many ABS parts on a Mendel have a limited lifespan due to heat and stress.

When you get to the point of slapping on an extruder, you may want to go with one of Rick's 1.75mm extruders: http://www.makergear.com/products/plastruder
I'll gladly give you all the extrusion grade 1.75mm ABS and HIPS I have! Hopefully next week I can nail down production of injection molding grade materials. Speaking of injection molding, Charles has a new project that he'll hopefully blog about shortly...
Thanks for the links. I will check those out for sure. I figured it might be easy enough to machine some of the components. I can see a fully metal reprap in the future. Building this one will educate me though...
I can't wait to see what Charles has happening! Tell him not to keep it to himself for too long. I need some inspiration right now!
