Eric and I rode our bikes to Chicago on Saturday and we worked on stuff at his shop. The Beemer ran quite well and I was pleased with its highway manners as we took the interstate the entire way. I did find out that it handles poorly on grooved pavement; scary stuff. But other than that it was fine. It definitely has longer legs than the old R60 as I had plenty of throttle left and there wasn't the typical pinging that I always got on the highway with the R60/5.
After recovering from the ride, we worked on getting the hood latch on his hot rod volks; we were able to get it to engage and release properly. Eric had just finished the seats last week. He made these from leather hides that he purchased, made the welting and did all of the sewing. They really turned out great and I have to say that they are quite comfortable (not to mention they smell great!). He also had the ragtop sunroof in place and functioning smoothly.
We finished setting caster and toe, put in some gas and took it for a spin around the block a few times. It's very peppy and a lot smoother than I anticipated. We got a ton of looks driving it around. He still has some loose ends to tie up; like tightening up the steering, working on the brakes, buttoning up the door windows, and getting the door seals to flatten out a bit, but other than that, he's ready to log some miles and keep an eye on the new engine break-in. This thing is going to be a ton of fun.
