The Kenilworth studios flooded Saturday night. A water pipe cracked and dumped a whole lot of water from the 6th floor to the 3rd floor. The damage was isolated to the North East corner and luckily the DCRL and my studio happen to be closer to the South East end. This is not the first time something like this has happened. The University doesn't cover personal possessions, so some of my colleagues suffered great loss. I pray that this never happens to my studio; better stock up on renter's insurance.

Man, that sucks. My first year teaching I had a pipe freeze and burst in my shop- water EVERYWHERE. Flooded the welding booth, the paint room, and back part of the shop. Thankfully I have floor drains so it didn't back up and fill the entire shop / school, and I didn't loose anything. I've got a list a mile and a half long of my personal "inventory", but I'm betting the school wouldn't cover a single piece of it.
Yeah, I worry about all of the stuff that I bring into the classroom that is actually personal equipment as well. Some floor drains would at least make me feel a little better.
