Chris Burns came to Appalachian State yesterday. Chris was ShopBot's first full time employee many years ago and now assists the company in building machines on the road and helping with education. Chris did some demos on Vectric CAM software for us and then we cut some test pieces. Chris brought a load of HDPE to us as a donation from another company he has worked with. We had a great time talking shop and hearing about various tips and tricks on ShopBot use. This was a great training session for certain. Chris also talked to us about his early years with Ted Hall at Shopbot, as well as his recent visit to Jimmy Diresta's shop to assemble a 4x8 ShopBot. I also talked to Chris about the new facilities at Haverford University where my former graduate student Kent Watson got his recent position running their fab lab. I was wiped out and my head overflowing with info by the time the day was over, but had such a great time hanging out with students and my colleagues.
