job site work ethic and bureaucracy

I cut the ventilation hood in my classroom the other day. When the contractors installed it they mounted it low and students kept smacking their head on it. They re-used the old hood and I've been asking if they would paint the hood to make it match the building. First they told me yes that they would. Then they told me no and said it wasn't their job to do it since it was a used hood. Then I decided to cut the hood and they asked me why I had cut the hood since they are still technically occupying the building and they own the property. I've never seen such bureaucracy.  I just knocked to corners off and I guess I'll paint it myself when they leave the building.

They had installed copper lines to run acetylene through. I informed them that this was not a safe situation and likely a code violation. They came back and installed steel pipe for the line, but then did a shoddy job. Check out the "wood shim". If you want to get a feel for what's happening in our world and what's become of work ethic and pride, take a walk around a job site. I've been on this job site for a  few months now and frankly I'm amazed at the lack or care or concern.
