The last few months have been filled with activity in my shop and especially at school. My teaching space had been relocated for the last year while the building was being remodeled. We were slated to be back in the new building my mid summer, but it was delayed. Then the schedule for moving back in was thrown off, and we ended up moving all of the furniture and supplies BEFORE moving heavy equipment in. This was all happening about four to five weeks before the start of the semester while construction was still happening. I ended up helping the moving crew with Adam and Addison almost everyday for three weeks, as we moved all Art media area supplies into their studio spaces. The new building was a hardhat zone, and they were some long hot days. The building didn't even have lights installed at the start of the move.
We eventually decided it would be good to get equipment in and so this was an adventure as we dodged workers and everything else we had moved in before the equipment. There were even some leaks from pipes in my Metals area that drenched some of the boxes and benches. Regardless we made it through the adventure and were granted access to the building two days before the start of the semester and nothing was fully functional, assembled, or even arranged at this point. I have been hustling to get things all set-up and still have a long way to go. Many things still need electrical hookup but the new teaching space is killer. It's going to transform my teaching and I am looking forward to it just getting better and better everyday/ever year.
I'm going to try and post here more often. I deleted social media and YouTube apps from my phone in early summer and I didn't realize how good life could be without them. I'm sure I've missed a lot of cool things, but the garbage that comes with it, just isn't worth it. If you want to connect give me a call, come over to the shop, or to my school, and we'll make something together. I'm a much happier person now that not being manipulated by an algorithm and I don't have to know what every person I have ever met feels about some news story or the government; my free time is mine again and it feels great to be bored as I can think about the next thing I would truly like to make or I can go on a walk with my wife and have great dialogue or I can hang out with one of my kids and get their opinion on an idea.
