electric motorcycle part 1

Austin's been working on his electric cycle project. His rear hub, front wheel, and battery packs were delivered. He cut some from girder parts in foam on Thursday. We're still working through the details on the girder mechanics, but he's doing some form studies this weekend. I look forward to seeing what it figures out.

Eric and I have been discussing building an electric motorcycle from scratch. I am seriously thinking about this as a good starting point to building an electric vehicle. He brought the Savic to my attention. This is nothing radical, but I think it's a rather smart looking bike; nice images too.

 

oset trials

Jacob sent me a pic of the new Oset electric trials that just came in at the local motorcycle shop. I need to get over there and check it out.

I noticed the brake rotors seem thin/vulnerable, but the suspension felt great. It’s 90% super sick, the only thing I didn’t like is that you can’t load up the clutch and then dump it to really make it pop over stuff. It kind of has a delay right off the throttle. Kind of like when your jetting isn’t right and nothing happens right when you crack the throttle. but it’s surprisingly fast, still had a big ole grin the whole time. - Jacob

There was a small exhibition area in the design area of the Harley Museum that showcased the work that went into the LiveWire electric motorcycle. I enjoyed seeing the clay models and sketches. The 3D printed frame was also very cool. I really would be interested in buying one of these. I don't say that about many NEW things, but this is one that intrigues me greatly.

What have we here? Didn't see this coming from H-D. I'd ride this. Of course I'd ditch the fork mounted reflectors, rear fender cover/license plate holder and shorten those mirror/turn-signals. This think in no slouch either. Who knew H-D had it in them? I remember doing an Motorcycle Design course when I first came to UWM. We also asked them about appealing to a younger audience and what their plan was for doing that.We did an electric motorcycle on the side as we didn't think H-D would approve. Guess I was wrong...
