Eric's recent post on music had me immersed in my own musical la la land over the weekend. I found a copy of the movie "It Might Get Loud" a documentary on the guitars and playing of Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White. I remember being a kid and playing along with John Bonham and working on homework. I must have driven my mother nuts beating on that old library table in my room. Jimmy Page is just one of the best for sure; so cool. The video above is a little excerpt from the movie. If you get a chance, check it out.
I really like some of the things that Jimmy Page talks about in the documentary. Just as Eric stated, I think you can apply many things from music to the discussion of art, craft and the creative process. Jimmy Page refers dynamics which I would compare to contrast: he says "...whisper to the thunder...". I like the sound of that. He also talks about the tactile quality of the amplified guitar and how you can hear the varied characteristics of every player through the handling of the object. I think it's the same thing with how one manipulates material to make "something". I also liked his comments on passion, honesty, and competence; qualities which I feel are essential in life. Nuff said.
