my series IIa

OK so I'm realizing that I didn't post any pics of the Land Rover Series IIA that I picked up. These pics were taken at the guy's place that I made the deal with. Originally he was just selling me the chassis and tub and nothing else. I was thinking I might be able to build up a farm vehicle to use around the property since he didn't want much for what was left of the Land Rover. It turns out he was using it for parts for another Series IIA that he had gotten from Texas. The one I was planning on purchasing had come from a nearby farm her in NC and it sounded like the owners just gave it to him since he was willing to haul it off their property. I was able to research that this left hand drive Series IIA was from this area thpough as it has a sticker from an old Land Rover shop near Asheville, so I think this vehicle would have been original to this part of the country.

Upon inspection, the rear spring hangers were no longer connected to the frame because the rear frame crossmember was completely rusted away. However, this is common on these models. The guy who had it for sale thought that the frame was junk, but I figured I could maybe save it if it wasn't too bad. Upon further inspection, the rest of the frame looked solid. This was a diesel so the frame was coated in thick oil everywhere else, which happened to save it. The bulkhead looked rough, but I suspected that a lot of the rust was actually rust staining as I had seen this kind of thing on old VW busses where areas of rust would bleed all over the surrounding areas and make things look worse than they really are. This was in fact the case. The rear tub had damage but it was aluminum as is all of the body panels so I figured I could anneal and reshape things. I decided to take it.
